What we keep

• Your email address, once you sign in, and a sign-in session for each device.
• A random device id in a cookie, so a free minute is counted once per device.
• For each call: when it happened, which tutor, your network address, and how many milliseconds you and your tutor spoke. That count is how talk time is measured.
• If you are signed in, a report for each call: how many words you said, your longest answer, and up to two corrections, each a short phrase you said with a better way to say it. Your next calls use these to bring the corrections back. They are deleted with your account.
• If you are signed in, what your tutor remembers: a few facts you shared about yourself (such as your job) and your speaking level. You can see them under Today and wipe them with Forget these. They are deleted with your account.
• A tutor reply you report, with your reason, so we can check it and stop it happening again, and any tutor sentence our filter stopped before it was spoken. Reports are kept for 90 days.
• What you bought and when it renews, from our card payment processor or from the App Store and Google Play.

What we do not keep

• Recordings of your voice. Each thing you say is sent for transcription and then discarded.
• The text of your call. It is used to answer you and to write your report, then dropped, apart from the corrections above.
• Your camera. Nothing on englishmaa asks for it.
• Card numbers. Our payment processor handles payment details.

Services that process your data

Before your first call we ask you to agree to this and to confirm you are 13 or older. Nothing you say is sent to them until you do. If you are signed in, we keep the date you agreed with your account.

• AI providers: transcription of your speech and your tutor's replies.
• Speech providers: your tutor's replies are turned into speech. They receive only the tutor's words.
• Payment processors: web card payments, and in-app purchases through Apple and Google.
• Our email provider: the sign-in code email.
• Google Analytics: counts visits to these web pages and which pages are read, using a cookie, once you first scroll, tap or press a key. It never sees your calls, and Google's advertising features are off. The phone app does not use it.
• Our hosting provider in Germany runs the server, and a content delivery network carries the site to you.

Your tutor's face is drawn on your own device. No video of you or your tutor is sent anywhere.

Your rights

To delete your account, open Account and choose Delete account, or follow these steps if you cannot sign in. Email [email protected] to get a copy of your data or for any other request. We reply within 7 days.
